Hadrian's Wall is a site of great importance to British and European history. Constructed in the second century, Hadrian's Wall remains a well visited site of historical significance.
Hadrian's Wall was originally devised by the Roman Emperor Hadrian during the first century. Hadrian was experiencing resistance from native peoples of conquered lands that had been added to the Roman Empire across the globe. Hadrian was also having difficulties in Britain and devised the wall as a testament to his dominance as emperor.
As well as being structurally and visually impressive Hadrian's Wall served a number of purposes. Hadrian's Wall was one of three walls which were used to divide the country and help to control Britain's economy. Many Roman soldiers contributed to
the wall which took ten years to build and can still be marvelled at today.
Hadrian's Wall has its own dedicated National Trail which runs for over eighty miles, stretching from coast to coast. The trail meanders through some of Britain's most picturesque countryside locations and has connections to more than eighty walks that branch from it.
Skipton CastleLocated in Yorkshire, home to the peak district and surrounding areas of great natural beauty, Skipton Castle is another example of well preserved British heritage.
