There are many different types of family holiday and many families choose to stay in a holiday cottage because of the fact they have so much more room for all the family. There are holiday cottages suitable for families all over the world now so no matter where they go they will be able to find appropriate
accommodation for their families needs.
Below is some more information on how the traditional family holiday has changed over the years and the various types of accommodation now available for families.
History - Over the years there have been many different types of family holiday that have been popular to varying levels. It was when transportation improved that there was a massive increase in the number of families going on holiday. This was especially the case when rail travel was introduced to the UK and many families started to travel to destinations that were sea side resorts. These resorts were one of the most popular for a long period of time until cheap air travel became available and there was a boom of families travelling abroad. There were plenty of destinations through out the UK that were at one point popular sea side resorts most of these being situated along the South Coast as this is where the weather tends to be best in the summer months.
Accommodation - The accommodation available to families now is much greater than in previous years. There was one point where there were hardly any places that could cater for families and the places that could tended to be fairly expensive so it was only wealthy families that could benefit. There was a change in this though and there were developments in places for families with some of the biggest competitors being companies such as Butlins and Pontins specialising in family holidays and accommodation. The advantage for families with these kinds of holidays is they were aimed at those families that couldn't afford to spend a lot of money. The accommodation on these sites varied from tents,
caravans and basic chalets so there was something that all families could afford. There are now things such as luxury holiday cottages that have all modern facilities a family may need that families can rent when on holiday; as well as this there are many more hotels that accommodate for families now.
So as you can see from the information above the typical family holiday has changed dramatically over the years from tents along the British coast to luxury holiday cottages and hotels all over the world.
