Holiday cottages and the coast are the perfect partnership for a great holiday. There are so many pleasant destinations around the UK and the world and wherever you find a nice beach, or good surf, or even just pleasant weather, you're bound to find holiday cottages that can be hired for weekends, weeks or even whole summers.

Coastal holidays are probably the most popular destination for holiday makers because the sea always promotes sun and sand. Most people tend to go abroad for holidays along the coast, to areas in Spain, Portugal and the rest of the Mediterranean coastal countries. This is because the Mediterranean is quite a warm sea, and being close to the equator means that if you get the correct time of year you can almost be guaranteed beautiful weather for the duration of your holiday, be it a weekend, or a month.

Of course, holidaying abroad is not everyone's "cup of tea" and many people enjoy the coastal sites and sounds of their own country. For example, in the UK there are some very popular coastal destinations, such as the White Cliffs Of Dover, or the surfing town of Newquay. These areas become very busy during the seasonal months, Dover in the summer when the weather is at it's nicest, and Newquay tends to attract most people during the months at the end of summer/beginning of autumn.

Age will also determine your favourite holiday resort. Young people and families will tend to venture where there is most sunshine and relaxation to be had, including good local night amenities and things to do for the children. The older generation are not as keen on this and prefer a more relaxed and sedate atmosphere. Places such as Morecambe, in the UK, can become very busy during the summer for the older generations because it is a classic seaside town withy a large beach and nice town, yet it is quite quiet compared to places such as Newquay, whose main focus is on young visitors.

For the best of both worlds, coastal holidays in the United States of America are the most popular. Most of the beaches along the central coasts are extremely beautiful and tend to have a very hot summer. Yet there are also great surfing locations and quite spots so that everyone benefits. The most famous places in America for coastal holidays are Miami, Florida and California where the weather is most pleasant and the resorts are mostly 5 star.
